NEW DELHI - Six activists of global environmental group Greenpeace were detained Wednesday for protesting the proposed civil nuclear liability bill near Parliament House.
The activists, including three women, were wearing black T-shirts and carrying yellow barrels emblazoned with the danger sign.
They stood in protest at Vijay Chowk, a short distance away from Parliament House, and shouted: “People before profit.” One of them also climbed on a street light and unfurled a banner.
Greenpeace have been critical of the nuclear bill, especially the cap on the compensation to be paid by the operator in case of an accident or disaster.
The government is expected to table the civil nuclear liability bill in parliament Wednesday.
The opposition has been protesting a specific section in the bill, which they claim dilutes the liability of suppliers.
