RAIPUR - A legislator of Chhattisgarh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) died of a heart attack here Sunday, doctors and party leaders said.
Madan Lal Sahu, 47, who won Sanjari Balod assembly seat in Durg district on his electoral debut in the December 2008 polls, collapsed at his residence and was taken to Ramakrishna Care Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
“He felt some pain in the heart in the evening at the state party headquarters in Raipur where state executive meeting was underway. He then left for the MLA (member of legislative assembly) Rest House (some 5 km from the meeting venue), where he fell down. He was rushed to Ramakrishna Care Hospital where he was declared dead,” a senior party leader told IANS.
The last rites of Sahu will take place Monday at his native village, Aramrikala in Durg district.
The death of BJP legislator has reduced the party’s strength to 47 in a 90-member state assembly, where the opposition Congress has 39 members.
