Clerk: Judge receives verdict in Blagojevich case

CHICAGO — A court clerk says the judge has received a verdict in the political corruption case against former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (blah-GOY’-uh-vich).

There was no immediate word of what the verdict was.

Tuesday was the 14th day of deliberations. Jurors had asked earlier in the day for advice on filling out their verdict forms, suggesting they were nearing the end of deliberations. They also asked for a copy of the oath they took before deliberating.

Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to trying to sell or trade President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat and leverage the power of his office for personal gain. His brother, a Nashville, Tenn., businessman, has also pleaded not guilty.

A lawyer for his brother and co-defendant had said that attorneys in the case had been summoned to the courtroom. Michael Ettinger said he did not know the reason.
