Camden, NJ, mayor has plan to keep libraries open

CAMDEN, N.J. — The mayor of one of the nation’s poorest cities has a plan to keep the libraries open and available to residents.

Camden, N.J., Mayor Dana Redd said Monday that city officials will look to join the county library system. Redd also said she’s in discussions to get residents access to Rutgers University’s Camden campus library.

The City Council must approve joining the county system.

The city’s library board announced last week it would close all three of its libraries by the end of the year because it can’t afford to keep operating.
