CHARLESTON (GaeaTimes.com)- On Friday, West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III said to media sources that Carte Goodwin will be replacing late Robert C. Byrd in the U.S. Senate. As per the statement of Joe Manchin III, Carte Goodwin will be holding the position until November in the U.S. Senate after Robert C. Byrd who died three weeks ago. Carte Goodwin will be sworn to his new position and duty on Tuesday. However, the Governor of West Virginia has said that he would like the voters to choose the person who will serve the final two years of the late senator’s term. The legislature, however, is yet to decide on the proposal of Governor Joe Manchin III.
The 36-year-old Carte Goodwin was the former chief counsel of Governor Joe Manchin III. On Friday, at the occasion of the announcement of the appointment, Carte Goodwin said that it is impossible to replace late Senator Robert C. Byrd, a Democrat who has served in the Senate for more than half-century. However, Carte Goodwin added that on his part he will try to emulate the work ethic of the late Senator and also his “commitment to the law, the Constitution and this great state”. At the age of 36, Carte Goodwin will become the youngest member of the Senate.
Although Carte Goodwin will be stepping in the shoes of late Senator Robert C. Byrd, he said that he would not like to run for the seat in the proposed November election. Governor Joe Manchin III on Friday, however, said that there are likely chances that he will seek the seat but he is yet to make any official announcement of his plans.
