MELBOURNE - A body language and communications expert has described Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s body language as perfect in terms of poise, humility and humour while getting her message to the people of the country across.
Michael Kelly said Gillard’s poise suggests the mark of woman who is “relishing” her new role, and says comparisons can be made between her and Britain’s iconic formidable former prime minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher.
“Overall she comes across as a very strong and powerful leader. There is a great mixture of passion and energy. She has wanted this role all along and you can see she is really relishing it,” the Courier Mail quoted Kelly, as saying.
“Kevin Rudd took himself far too seriously, whereas Julia has more of a sense of humour,” Kelly says.
Kelly, however, believes Gillard’s distinct voice remains “her Achilles heel.”
“I think she’s definitely had voice training because her voice has more energy in it now and it’s not as droning,” he says.
“I think a lot of people would have found her quite unpleasant to listen to, but she’s definitely making the effort to have less of a monotone. She definitely needs to keep adding that variety to her voice.”
Kelly believes that Gillard dresses more like a leader than her opponent Tony Abbott.
