Will expose Goa minister, son involved in drug trade: BJP

PANAJI - The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Goa unit chief Sunday hinted that during the forthcoming assembly session scheduled in July the party would expose the ruling party minister, whose son has been linked to the drug trade in Goa.

Speaking at a press conference after the party’s state executive committee meeting, Laxmikant Parsekar said: “We will expose everyone involved in playing roles of ‘dalals’ and collection agents during the ensuing state legislative assembly session which is scheduled next month,” asking reporters to “wait and see”.

A Swedish model and a former girlfriend of notorious Israeli drug dealer operating from Goa had alleged that a powerful politician’s son was involved in drug trade.

The model Lucky Farmhouse’s spy cam videos of her former boyfriend Yaniv Benaim alias Atala boasting of his links to politicians and policemen, resulted in the arrest of seven policemen and Atala himself, for their involvement in the police-politician-drug mafia nexus, which also involves journalists.

The name of the politician or his son involved has, however, not been published in the public domain, thanks to the reluctance of the state police in meeting Lucky, who was in Mumbai last months and was awaiting to be contacted by the Goa police.

Parsekar said that drug trade had now reached the “doors of a minister’s house” and that the party would be exposing the minister and his son involved soon.

The two-time state BJP president also condemned the government’s failure to control the worsening law and order situation. “Here, you have a minister who resigns from the cabinet and is missing for the last three weeks. Police are not able to get in touch with him. Where is the sense of collective responsibility?” Parsenkar said.

The BJP executive committee in its meeting also ruled out making any attempts to topple the Congress-led coalition government before the next state assembly polls scheduled to be held in 2012.

“We are not interested in coming to power with the help of these sort of people. We will go to the people’s court in 2012 and will let them vote us to power,” Parsekar said.
