GADCHIROLI - Angry tribal youths Friday stopped Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil’s motorcade to protest alleged discrimination in recruitment to new police posts in this Maoist-infested district.
Some 50 young tribal men were waiting near the road along which Patil, the guardian minister of the district, was expected to come and address a function here during his two-day visit here, an official said.
The youths raised slogans and did not allow the motorcade to move further till Patil stepped out and spoke to them.
He assured them he would look into their grievances following which the youths relented and allowed the convoy to go to the venue.
According to the official, the state government is planning to make 2,300 new recruitments to police posts in Gadchiroli, of which 1,200 post have already been filed.
Case has been taken to follow all regulations and even a Supreme Court ruling in the matter of such recruitments, the official said.
