Chosang declares dates for Tibetan general elections

DHARAMSALA - The Tibetan chief election commissioner in-exile, Jampal Chosang, declared the dates of the general elections of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile and Prime Minister on Thursday.
Chosang declared the dates of preliminary elections on October 3 and the final elections to be held on March 20, 2011.
“We have started the official electoral process with the two additional election commissioners appointed by His Holiness (Dalai Lama). So, this is the objective of this press conference,” said Chosang.
The term of office of the Tibetan Parliament in-exile and chairman of the cabinet will expire in 2011.
The Parliament consists of 46 members. Sessions of the Parliament are held twice every year, with an interval of six months between the sessions.
Instituted in 1960, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile is the highest legislative organ of the Tibetan refugee community. (ANI)
