Another party breaks away from Left Front in Kerala

KANNUR - The Indian National League (INL), an ally of Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), Thursday decided to snap its ties with the alliance and to work with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
The decision was announced after a meeting of the state committee of the party chaired by national president Mohammed Sulaiman here. The INL was set up by the late Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait, who quit the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992
The INL leaders complained that for the past 14 years, they have had just the tag of an ally of the LDF but never got the status of a full-fledged member of the LDF, and hence they decided to call it a day.
“We have been a friendly ally of the LDF for such a long time whereas some groups have been made an ally in no time. So there is no point in now waiting like this and hence we have decided to end our relations with the LDF,” Sulaiman said.
INL’s sole legislator, P.M.A.Salam claimed that the league’s entry into the LDF was opposed by the Communist Party of India (CPI).
Last month, a faction of the Kerala Congress-Joseph, led by former PWD Minister P.J.Joseph, quit the LDF and merged with the Kerala Congress-Mani of the UDF.
It was also decided in the league meeting that in the ensuing local bodies polls due to take place in September, the INL will work together with the UDF.
