Leahy: Kagan should get Senate vote before August

WASHINGTON — The head of the Senate Judiciary Committee says Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan should get a Senate confirmation vote before August.

Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy says that Kagan should get a confirmation vote the chamber leaves for August recess.

Leahy says Kagan has impressive legal credentials. The Vermont senator noted that both Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Sonia Sotomayor were confirmed by the Senate before the court’s new term started in October.

He says the same should be done for Kagan.
