Kagan: Nomination is honor of a lifetime

WASHINGTON — Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan says it’s an honor of a lifetime to be nominated to the high court by President Barack Obama.

At White House ceremony Monday, Kagan said she’s especially pleased to be nominated to fill the seat vacated by retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, who she says played a special role on the court.

If confirmed, Kagan would bring the number of women serving on the Supreme Court to three, the most to ever serve at one time.
