CARACAS - A television channel in Venezuela has reported that there may be conspiracies going on in the country to assassinate President Hugo Chavez.

The Venezolana de Television channel said in a programme that “constant subliminal messages” on social networking websites, “exploitation” of the alleged closure of a television channel, and statements made by Venezuelan right-wing representatives outside the country, were possibly related to a threat to Chavez’s life.

Journalist Jose Vicente Rangel said during the programme that such threats against the president were the basis for the theories of assassination, even though Chavez’s opponents have publicly refuted them, Prensa Latina reported.

Rangel also said the opposition has the ability to hire assassins to execute their conspiracies.
