MUSCAT - Two people were killed when security forces in Oman fired at protesters calling for political reforms, medical sources said Sunday.
Around 2,000 people have taken to the streets in the industrial city of Sohar, some 250 km north of the capital Muscat, since Saturday to protest.
Witnesses said Sunday police used tear gas in a bid to disperse the gathering before firing at protesters, leaving two people dead.
The Sultanate of Oman on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula has a population of just under three million.
The protests are the latest in a wave sweeping across the Arab world and Middle East, from Tunisia to Egypt, Libya and Yemen.
