Rahul Gandhi begins 3-day Maharashtra visit Thursday

MUMBAI - Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Maharashtra on a three-day whirlwind tour Thursday in which he will have a packed schedule meeting people from backward castes, minorities and women, according to an official announcement.

He will attend a Scheduled Tribes convention in Gadchiroli, and other backward castes convention in Buldhana, and a minority meet in Parbhani Jan 27.

The following day, Gandhi will attend a Scheduled Castes convention in Osmanabad, a meeting of potential candidates for elections in Dhule, and a young womens convention at Shirdi in Ahmednagar district.

He will also attend a meeting of the state Congress in Aurangabad that evening.

Gandhi will address the media in Aurangabad Jan 29 before leaving for the Konkan region in the coastal parts of the state.

The first halt will be in Thane where he will attend a Scheduled Tribes convention in Palghar, and then go to Mahad in Raigad for a meeting with elected representatives, followed by a nomadic tribes convention in Satara.

Gandhis previous visit to the state Sep 7, 2010, was completely dedicated to meetings and interactions with college students and youth across Maharashtra.

At the time, he had met students and youth in educational institutions in Akola, Aurangabad and Pune, and urged them to join mainstream politics.
