China visit important to BJP, says Gadkari

NEW DELHI - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari said Wednesday that his five-day goodwill visit to China further strengthens the cordial relations existing between the BJP and the Communist Party of China (CPC).
It is an important visit for the BJP delegation and for me personally,” he told a group of party workers Wednesday night before leaving for Beijing.
Gadkari is accompanied by his wife Kanchan Gadkari and a delegation of senior party leaders.
He recalled the visit of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to China in 2003 and said the two countries benefited immensely from it.
It was during Vajpayee’s visit that India and China agreed to have special representatives of the prime ministers on the boundary issue, Gadkari said.
Gadkari said he was looking forward to meaningful talks with chinese leaders.
I am looking forward to having meaningful talks with the Chinese leaders on a wide range of issues of mutual concern. I hope the visit will further enhance bilateral cooperation in a number of fields of common interest.
“I trust our visit to China will help boost people-to-people exchanges which are very important for better appreciation of each others point of view and for developing respect for each others core concerns, he said.
During the five-day tour, the BJP delegation will visit Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. While in Beijing, Gadkari is likely to meet a senior leader of the Communist Party of China for wide-ranging talks on issues of mutual concern.
Gadkaris itinerary includes a meeting with the leaders of the Chinese Association for Bamboo industry. He is also scheduled to visit enterprises dealing with processing of bamboo and agricultural products.
He is also scheduled to visit Yanqing county for a field study of the new energy development and recycle projects in the rural area besides one of the largest solar power plants in China.
Gadkaris delegation includes party general secretaries Thawarchand Gehlot and Vijay Goel, joint organising secretary Saudan Singh, secretaries Laxman Kova and Arti Mehra, his political associate Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and joint convener of the partys foreign affairs cell Vijay Jolly.
