SRINAGAR - People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti criticizing the Omar Abdullah Government, on Tuesday said the quality of life has deteriorated in the last two years due to the government’s inefficiency in providing basic infrastructure to the people.

She led a protest, which witnessed the participation of a large number of PDP leaders and supporters.

The protest march passed through main city centre Lal Chowk and concluded at the party’s office, as protestors chanted anti-government slogans.

Mufti said the protest was just a glimpse of what could be a major outbreak against the inefficiency of the state government.

“The winter is here and this government is getting more than 500 MW electricity in addition to what PDP-Congress government had. But in spite of that there is total darkness. Water shortage is there; ration is being hoarded and being sold in black market. There is corruption all around. There is no gas available. You have to stand in queues for hours in this cold,” said Mufti.

“There is deterioration in the quality of life during these last two years. The government should have been better, the quality of life should have been better because the violence was down, but unfortunately this government has totally failed to provide a sense of security to the life and property of the people,” she added.

Mufti further said the PDP planned to hold more such protests on a larger scale if the issues plaguing the region, including lack of electricity, rations, etc., are not addressed quickly.

Earlier today, the PDP supporters led by Tarlok Singh Bajwa staged a protest against the State Government in Jammu to protest over the rising prices of essential commodities. (ANI)
