Congress top brass concerned over poor AICC media coverage

NEW DELHI - The top brass in the Congress party is reportedly concerned, anxious and worried about the lack of media-related publicity of Tuesday’s all important All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting that was held at the refurbished Talkatora Stadium.

A majority of the media has confined their report on the AICC meet to the inside pages of their respective papers.

Key members of the party’s crisis management team have reportedly gone into a damage control mode to convince the media - both print and television - to redirect their focus on the positive results being achieved by the Congress and the UPA Government, and not concentrate or highlight the negatives such as the lack of decision-making on issues such as the alleged irregularities related to the recently concluded XIXth Commonwealth Games and the Adarsh Housing Society scam in Mumbai.

There is a view in some quarters of the Congress party that too much attention is being placed on the scams by the media and the opposition.

While Congress President Sonia Gandhi said the government is keen on a “meaningful political dialogue” with all, the BJP-led opposition has retorted that it expects more scams to surface from the Congress cupboards.

Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said: “Things are now out in the open. The country wants a decision. There should be no delay on part of the Congress and the (Maharashtra) Chief Minister’s resignation should be accepted immediately.”

“I was speaking with the national president (Nitin Gadkari) and he said more such scams in Mumbai will come out in the open in days to come,” she added.

The BJP would scuttle any plans of the Congress to “hide” the CWG scam behind the housing society scam, Swaraj said, adding the party would “expose” all scams in the Winter session of Parliament beginning next week. By Sitesh Dwivedi (ANI)
