BJP expels five rebel contestants in Bihar

PATNA - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday expelled five rebels, including sitting legislator Sanjiv Jha, contesting the October-November assembly polls in Bihar as Independent candidates after denial of party ticket.

BJP state unit vice president Sanjay Mayukh said that Sanjiv Jha, contesting from Saharsa, Awadh Bihari Singh in Thakurganj, Ajay Jha in Araria, and Mahendra Mandal and Shyamdeo Paswan in Banmankhi have been expelled for six years for indulging in anti-party activities.

The party is facing a revolt by many party leaders and workers over denial of ticket with many protests outside the the BJP office here in the last two weeks.

The six-phase polling begins Oct 21 and ends Nov 20. Counting of votes will be held Nov 24.
