NEW DELHI - Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday urged people to maintain peace and order ahead of the Sep 24 verdict on the Ayodhya dispute.

“I would like the media to reserve judgement and not make hasty pronouncements,” Chidambaram told reporters.

He also asked people to understand that the verdict was a “culmination of the legal process”.

The minister also urged people and organisations “not to spread rumours”.

A three-judge special bench of the Allahabad High Court is scheduled to pronounce the verdict in the Babri Masjid/Ramjanmabhoomi dispute Sep 24.
