NAGPUR - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari has expressed disapproval of the suggestion to amend the Armed Forces Specail Power Act (AFSPA) in Kashmir.

Talking to reporters at Nagpur International Airport here, Gadkari said: “Already many of our jawans have lost their lives and many more suffered bullet injuries while safeguarding the country. So taking any decision against the Army will demoralise their motivation.”

Reflecting the sentiments expressed at the all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Kashmir, Gadkari underscored the need to reach out to the people of the state, but with a difference.

“The talks should be held within the framework of the Constitution, with all those, who abjure violence. If such talks take place, then the BJP will adopt a constructive and cooperative approach,” he added.

He further said that opinion of people of Leh, Ladakh and Jammu should also be taken into consideration before taking any decision over Kashmir issue.

Accusing Pakistan of promoting terrorism in the country, Gadkari said: “Separation of Jammu and Kashmir was not acceptable to BJP.

“Kashmir was an undivided part of the country and its separations not acceptable,” he added.

The death toll from the violence in the Kashmir Valley has crossed the 90 mark in the last three months.

Clashes between stone-pelters and security forces have become a near-daily feature in the streets. (ANI)
