Former Bihar minister, wife to join Congress

NEW DELHI - Former Bihar agriculture minister Nagmani and his wife Suchitra Sinha, a sitting legislator, said they will join the Congress next week.

Nagmani and Sinha met Congress president Sonia Gandhi Thursday and expressed their desire to join the party. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik, who is in charge of Bihar, was also present at the meeting.

Nagmani said he and his wife will join Congress at a function in Patna Sep 13.

Nagmani had joined Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) after the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) denied him a ticket to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

Asked for reasons for quitting RJD, he said: “Lalu Prasad is a dictator.”

Nagmani said he was impressed by the Congress-led government’s stance of sending money liberally for development of Bihar. the former minister said he will be happy with any responsibility given to him by the Congress.

Sinha, who is a legislator of the JD-U, said she had resigned from the party.

“I have sent my resignation to party president Sharad Yadav,” Sinha told IANS.
