CHANDIGARH - Legislators in Haryana and Punjab will get higher salaries and allowances.

In Haryana, the concept of salary has been introduced for the first time for legislators, who will get Rs.10,000 a month from now. Earlier, they were not getting any salary.

But the major hike for legislators is in allowances. They will now get Rs.55,000 instead of Rs.35,500 a month earlier.

The pension admissible to former legislators has also been increased to over Rs.20,000 per month.

For travelling, the legislators will get an enhanced rate of mileage of Rs.15 per km instead of Rs.12. In addition, the petty grant has gone up to Rs.100,000 per year.

In Punjab, the cabinet Tuesday gave the green signal to enhance the allowances and other facilities of the chief minister, deputy chief minister, ministers, deputy ministers, chief parliamentary secretaries, parliamentary secretaries and legislators.

The pension for ex-legislators has been recommended for enhancement.
