AJMER - Rejecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s allegations of discrimination, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid Sunday said that the Congress wanted the state to be Mahatma Gandhi’s Gujarat once again.

“Congress is a party which follows in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi and we can never ignore Gujarat. But we want Gandhi’s Gujarat,” Khurshid said on the sidelines of a function here.

Replying to a question on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s allegations that the Congress was misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Khurshid said that the probe agency was totally independent.

“The government in no way can control the CBI, it can only give administrative support. It (the CBI) draws its conclusions based on the evidence it gets,” he said.
