Obamas to attend Ford’s Theatre gala

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will honor South African human rights activists at the annual Ford’s Theatre gala Sunday night.

The White House will host a reception ahead of the gala for the Washington theater, where President Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot.

Afterward, Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will attend the event featuring singer Kelly Clarkson, comedian George Lopez, actor Dick Van Dyke and others. Ty Burrell of ABC’s “Modern Family” will host.

South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu and South African Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs are to receive the Ford’s Theatre Lincoln Medal.
