JAIPUR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The plans of JDA or the Jaipur Development Authority has come to a halt after the proposed Shanti Path tunnel project of state urban development department was denied the nod by the forest department. The forest department has not given it a NOC. The project was kick started to connect the Naya Jaipur township with other regions in the state. The proposed tunnel with a length of 4 km would pass through the Aravalli hills and link the Kho Nagoriyan village with JLN Marg adjacent to Birla temple. The JDA earlier got objections from the forest department regarding the tunnel and linking roads.

However, even after the Jaipur Development Authority came up with the revised plan, the forest department officials are not happy with it. A JDA official admitted that the forest department has denied the project verbally and official response will arrive shortly. The main grievance of the forest officials is that the tunnel will pose threat to the wildlife in the region. They have suggested that the Ghat ki Ghuni tunnel is also suitable for linking the Naya Jaipur township. The earlier proposal to use the hills and linking road was denied as it would have hampered ecological environment along with wildlife.

JDA is of the opinion that the delay in getting clearance would prove to be problematic for the Naya Jaipur township. It consists of 105 sq km area and would benefit from the tunnel project. The JDA and the forest departments have differences of opinions on the feasibility of the project. The JDA is still hopeful of getting it cleared.
