Somali militia wound 5 in attack on Kenyan village

NAIROBI, Kenya — A senior Kenyan government official says unidentified Somali militiamen wounded five people when they attacked a northeastern Kenya village.

James ole Serian, the Northeastern Province commissioner, says an unknown number of the Somali militiamen crossed into Kenya in two pickup trucks Thursday and shot at huts in Dadajabula village about 500 miles (800 kilometers) northeast of the capital, Nairobi.

The attack comes barely a week after an al-Qaida-linked Somali militia group, al-Shabab, said it would attack Kenya if the country does not stop interfering in Somalia’s affairs.

Ole Serian said Friday that Kenyan authorities are still trying to determine who is responsible for the attack in which three Kenyans and two Somalis were wounded.
