Obama Nominates Elena Kagan as Supreme Court Justice

WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com) — Elena Kagan is President Obama’s nominee for the United States Supreme Court. Kagan, the first female solicitor general now would become the third woman on the Supreme Court of The United States and the fourth in history. Obama has picked Kagan to replace the retiring justice John Paul Stevens.

Elena Kagan, 50 is currently occupying the post of the Solicitor General of The United States. She is also a Professor and Dean of Harvard Law School. She is best known as sharp and political savvy.

Though Kagan has no judicial experience yet, she is regarded as a brilliant legal mind, who has fought cases before the Supreme Court. Therefore, Obama’s nomination has been widely accepted.

The power to nominate Supreme Court justices is one of the most important roles that presidents have. Obama’s pick for Kagan have to be confirmed by the Senate, which is dominated by Democrats. With 59 votes, they have more than enough power to select kagan, as the youngest justice on the court.
