Legislator: White Sox shouldn’t train in Ariz.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen opposes an Illinois lawmaker’s call for the team to move its spring training camp out of Arizona.

Guillen is originally from Venezuela and says he supports immigrants 100 percent. But he says the idea of leaving Arizona is “too drastic.”

A White Sox spokesman says this is a policy for Major League Baseball to address, not just one team.

State Sen. Martin Sandoval said Wednesday the White Sox should cut ties with Arizona to protest a law requiring local police to enforce federal immigration laws.

The Sox play in a stadium owned and partly subsidized by the state. Sandoval says he wouldn’t want to spend tax money on a team that does business in Arizona.
