DHAKA - Bangladesh will have an ombudsman to oversee the working of the government and autonomous bodies so as to establish good governance.

President Zillur Rahman will appoint the ombudsman on the basis of a recommendation by parliament next month, Law Minister Shafiq Ahmed said Tuesday.

The ombudsman can investigate the complaints and direct the government to take steps in this regard, Star Online quoted the minister as saying.

The ombudsman will place a report every year before parliament, he said, adding that the ombudsman will be accountable to parliament.
