CAIRO - Military units in northeastern Libya have signalled their support for anti-government protesters who are seeking the ouster of strongman Muammar Gaddafi, Al Arabiya reported Wednesday.

The broadcaster aired footage of the leaders of the military units in the al-Jabal al-Akhdar district vowing to support the protesters after Libyan leader Gaddafi vowed he would not step down.

Protesters are demanding an end to Gaddafi’s 41-year rule. The UN has expressed concern over Gaddafi’s call to his supporters to take to the streets.
