NEW DELHI - Prime Minster Manmohan Singh Wednesday said that the way the recent scams, which he called aberrations, were being projected was weakening the confidence of India.

“The media have drawn the country’s attention to some aberrations in allocation of 2G spectrum, the Commonwealth Games and more recently some developments in the space organisation and Adarsh society affairs,” he said in a media interaction with news channel heads.

In projecting these events an impression has gone down that we are a scam driven country and that nothing good is happening in our country. We are weakening the self confidence of India. That is not in the interest of our country, he said.

He assured that there was a functioning government that is taking its job seriously.

We are here to govern and govern seriously.

He urged the media not to focus excessively on negative issues and thereby erode the self-confidence of the nation.
