KOLKATA - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Chandan Mitra Tuesday said the Trinamool Congress cannot be an agent of change in West Bengal.

Mitra, who was in the city to attend the BJP national office-bearers meeting, said: The Trinamool and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) are two sides of the same coin. Trinamool can never be an agent of change in the state. The ruffian elements of CPI-M have now entered the Trinamool Congress.”

Our attempt is to build a new Bengal which has for the past 33 years witnessed misrule, terror, violence and loss of industry and capital. The choice between the CPI-M and Trinamool Congress is the choice between devil and the deep sea, Mitra said.

Enthusiastic about the BJP’s chances in the upcoming assembly elections in the state, Mitra said: “In the last one year, we have brought BJP in a position of reckoning in the state. We are very hopeful of our chances.
