NEW DELHI - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday arrested Shekhar Deorukhkar, officer on special duty to then Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, officials said.

“He has been arrested today (Friday) afternoon from Pune and would be taken to a CBI special court and we will bring him to Delhi by tomorrow (Saturday) on transit remand,” CBI Deputy Inspector General Vinita Thakur told IANS.

The Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games held last year in New Delhi were clouded by allegations of massive financial irregularities and corruption.

The government sacked Suresh Kalmadi and Games organising Committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot Jan 24 from their posts following the allegations.
