UAE expresses concern over Egypt crisis

Baghdad, Feb 4 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates has expressed its deep concern over the violent unrest in Egypt and slammed the parties which are trying to exploit the situation.

“What is happening in Egypt is painful to us all,” Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said.

“What hurts men and women as well as the leadership in Egypt hurts us all, and our standing with Egypt is an urgent need. But our disapproval is of certain parties which might try to exploit the situation with external agenda.

Some countries, who do not understand the region and Egypt, are trying to benefit from what happens to their own advantage,” Sheikh Abdullah said at joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari here Thursday.

Sheikh Abdullah is currently in Iraq on an official visit.

Protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that began Jan 25 has left over a dozen people dead and over 800 injured.
