Lalu Yadav visits Jagannath temple to celebrate New Year

PURI - Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav visited the Jagannath temple here on Saturday to mark the beginning of the New Year with god’s blessings.

After his visit to the temple, Yadav told reporters that he came here to pray for his well-being and a prosperous year ahead.

“I came here to visit the temple of Jagannath, the lord of lords, on New Year. I wish that everybody prospers,” said Yadav.

Meanwhile, the other devotes, who had gathered here, said a better way of celebrating the New Year is to offer prayers at the holy shrines.

“I come here to the Jagannath temple every year on January 1. We feel really relaxed after coming here. We have our beliefs in him,” said Anita Kumar, a devotee in the temple.

The administration has stepped up security here keeping into account the inflow of large number of devotees, who come here every year on January 1 to offer prayers. (ANI)
