BERLIN - German Chancellor Angela Merkel Saturday praised Indias Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh for his “important contributions” at the Cancun climate summit.

Talking to reporters in a joint press conference with visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Merkel welcomed the outcome of the Cancun meeting but said much was needed to be done to reduce the environmental pollution.

“Indian minister Ramesh has made important contributions,” Merkel said.

She said India and Germany will enhance their cooperation towards reducing climate hazards.

“We have to continue to work together to achieve ambitious climate pollution reduction target and we will work together,” she said, adding “nevertheless I am satisfied with the Cancun meet”.
