Prime Minister, Vice President greet nation on Guru Nanak Jayanti

NEW DELHI - The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari have greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion.

“Guru Nanakji’s life and message of brotherhood and equality of man remains relevant today. By following the teachings of Guru Nanakji, the world can overcome differences and work together to fight ignorance, poverty, hunger and disease,” said Dr Singh in his message.

Greeting the people on the holy and auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak’s birthday, Vice President Ansari said: “I convey my greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the holy and auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak’s Birthday. Guru Nanak Devji has been apostle of universal love, piety and spiritual faith. His divine teachings guide us on the path of social harmony and unity.”

“On this joyous occasion let us pray that his ideals of humanism and social equality inspire us to move towards a peaceful and just society,” he added in his message to the nation.

Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated all over the country on Sunday.

Guru Nanak was the founder of the religion of Sikhism and the first of ten Sikh Gurus. Sikhs believe that all subsequent Gurus possessed Guru Nanak’s divinity and religious authority. (ANI)
