LUCKNOW - With cinestars Jaya Prada and Sanjay Dutt in tow, expelled Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh is all set to formally launch his own party in the new year.

“I will make a formal announcement about my plans soon after the conclusion of a march I propose to lead from Allahabad to Gorakhpur between Dec 1 and Dec 30,” Singh told reporters here Tuesday.

He came here to meet his supporters after the Supreme Court offered him interim relief on his plea on issues related to his expulsion from the SP.

The meeting was held in a modest Ganna Sansthan auditorium, that was packed to its capacity of 650, while nearly 1,000 other supporters could be seen crowding around the place.

Besides the followers of Jaya Prada from Rampur, her Lok Sabha constituency, the Singh show drew crowds from parts of east Uttar Pradesh, which he proposes to build as his new focus area.

Other than hitting out at Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, his focus at the meeting remained on sharing with the participants a dream of carving a new “Purvanchal” state out of Uttar Pradesh.

“My mission is to fight for the cause of building smaller states and Purvanchal will mark the beginning of this movement from Dec 1,” he told mediapersons.

He was, however, evasive when asked if he would contest an election instead of entering the Rajya Sabha again.
