NEW DELHI - Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar Wednesday said that he fully backed the choice of Prithviraj Chavan as the new chief minister of Maharashtra and added that he would revive the state.

“It is a good selection, he will revive Maharashtra,” Pawar told reporters outside parliament.

“He will have full support of the NCP.”

Chavan, who holds several portfolios in the union cabinet, was selected as the new chief minister of Maharashtra after Ashok Chavan resigned Tuesday in the wake of the Adarsh housing society scam.

Maharashtra is governed by a Congress-NCP coalition.
