NEW DELHI - Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer B.S. Lalli has denied impropriety in payments to SIS Live, a Britain-based company which was given the contract to cover the Commonwealth Games.

Referring to allegations that he overruled suggestions of withholding payments to SIS Live till the company was investigated, Lalli said whatever had been done was done in correct manner.

“Whatever has been done has been done in totally proper correct and valid manner,” Lalli told private television channel NDTV.

“It is incorrect to state that anybody in the organisation said that the payment should not be released. There is an apex group - made up of senior officers in the corporation - I am chairman of that group - that group took the decision,” he told the news channel.

Asked about the questionable legal status of the firm, Lalli said that it was he who noticed a problem with service tax number and told officials that they should have been more careful.

“I am told they do now have valid service tax number,” he said.
