LUCKNOW - A legislator of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was hospitalised after he fell unconscious Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district while campaigning for a contestant in the panchayat elections, police said.

Yogesh Verma, who represents the Hastinapur assembly seat in Meerut, fainted and fell to the ground in Rani Nagla village, some 450 km from Lucknow.

“Verma is being treated at a hospital and his condition is stable,” superintendent of police (rural) Anant Dev told reporters.

Meanwhile, BSP activists have alleged that the legislator was served poisonous food by political rivals.
