Obama to visit RI to raise money for candidate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — President Barack Obama will visit Rhode Island to raise money for Democratic congressional candidate David Cicilline (sis-uh-LEE’-nee) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Invitations obtained Friday by The Associated Press from Democratic officials show Obama will appear at two events in Providence on Oct. 25 with Cicilline and the man he hopes to replace, retiring Rep. Patrick Kennedy. Also listed as hosting is Rep. Jim Langevin (LAN’-juh-vin).

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Obama would appear with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio. Caprio’s independent rival, former U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee, made a high-profile endorsement of Obama during his presidential campaign.

Caprio tells the AP he doesn’t have details of any Obama event.
