Michelle Obama to stump for Blumenthal in Conn.

HARTFORD, Conn. — First lady Michelle Obama will become the latest high-profile Democrat to campaign for Richard Blumenthal, the state attorney general who is in a competitive race for Connecticut’s Senate seat.

Blumenthal’s campaign announced Wednesday that the first lady will appear at an event with Blumenthal on Oct. 18. Details of the appearance have not yet been released.

President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton have already appeared at events to rally supporters and to raise campaign funds.

Ted Kennedy Jr., the son of the late Massachusetts senator, was to appear at a rally on Wednesday with Blumenthal in New Haven.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll gives Blumenthal a slight lead over Republican Linda McMahon in the race to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd.
