Obama raising money and touting college goals

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s picking up the pace of his late-summer dash for campaign cash.

The president’s fundraising stops on Monday in two Texas cities, Austin and Dallas, come as Democrats fight to hang onto to their voting majorities in the House and Senate this November, halfway through Obama’s first term.

The White House is also trying to draw attention to the official business on Obama’s agenda in Texas, a speech underscoring the president’s higher education agenda.

In Austin, at the University of Texas, Obama is expected to remind people about the steps he’s taken with the Democratic-led Congress to funnel more money to colleges.
