KOLKATA - West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Saturday called a 12-hour shutdown in the Sundarbans area Tuesday to protest against the central government not releasing the promised funds for reconstruction work following the damage inflicted by Cyclone Aila last year.

The Left was also cut up with the central government for what it alleged its failure to give any money for building 3.5 km of concrete embankments in the Sundarbans.

“Not only that, one of the union ministers belonging to the Trinamool Congress, C.M.Jatua, wrote to the Planning Commission requesting it not to pay the money to the state government,” Front chairman Biman Bose told reporters.
