Himachal invites private players to develop elite resorts

SHIMLA - The Himachal Pradesh Tuesday invited private players to develop elite hotels in the state to attract high-end tourists.

\”The cabinet invited the hoteliers to set up six five- and seven-star resorts in the state,\” Director Tourism Arun Sharma told IANS.

He said the proposed sites were Baddi in Solan district, Baragaon near Manali, Suketi in Sirmour district, Jhatingri in Mandi district, Shoja in Kullu district and Bilaspur town.

\”We will give preference only to those bidders who are already in the business of five- and seven-star hotels,\” he said.

An official of the tourism department said Taj, Marriott, Hilton and Orchids have shown keen interest in making investment in the state.

Known for its tourist spots, Himachal Pradesh has seen an increase in inflow of tourists. The state last year attracted 11.4 million tourists, including 400,583 foreigners. This year, till Feb 28, 917,807 people have visited the state.
