MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The expectation and anxiety regarding the recently held Navi Mumbai Municipal Election was high. The election saw a voter turnaround of 56 percent as it was reported earlier. The NCP fought independently while BJP retained its tied with the Shiv Sena. The election was more of less peaceful with minor incidents of violence taking place in some places. The result of the election is out now and the people’s verdict is on the side of the Nationalist Congress Party. It was earlier predicted that the party will win the election without requiring any sort of assistance and the prediction has turned out to be true. According to the latest updates, the NCP has won 55 out of 89 seats in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation election 2010.

However, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has emerged the winner in Aurangabad where they have bagged a total of 37 seats. Surprising as it may appear to many, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena led by Raj Thackeray has been quashed in the election. It is really amazing that despite their pro-Marathi campaign the MNS could not capture even a single seat in the 2010 Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation election. Even in Aurangabad it has got a single seat.

The Congress has bagged 11 seats in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation election and 24 seats in Aurangabad. The parties are now readying for the mayor’s post. The BJP scored well in Aurangabad but in Navi Mumbai election the NCP reigns supreme. The MNS has taken a huge beating and the political ambitions of Raj Thackeray will be thwarted by this outcome.
